Specialists from the Baltic Shipyard, part of USC, have begun installing shaft lines on the icebreaker Chukotka. The propeller shaft, to which the ship's propeller is attached, has been loaded onto the stern. This was reported by the shipbuilding corporation's press service.
A total of three shaft lines made of carbon steel are planned for installation. The total weight of the shaft with two blades and a hub is 83 tons. The length of the propeller shaft is 13 meters, the side counterparts are 16.5 meters, and the diameter is 840 mm.
The shaft lines installed on the nuclear icebreaker Chukotka were manufactured and tested at the Baltic Shipyard, taking into account the specifics of operation in harsh Arctic conditions, and are capable of ensuring safe operation and maneuverability of the vessel.
The nuclear icebreaker Chukotka is the fifth vessel of Project 22220. It is scheduled to be launched before the end of this year.
