Moscow authorities explain how the city's digital twin is used and what the "VDNKh Metaverse" is for

The digital twin is used in meetings for management decision-making

Representatives of the Department of Information Technology (DIT) of Moscow and the VDNKh complex spoke about how the digital twin of Moscow and the "VDNKh Metaverse," launched a month ago, are used. The public talk "MetaVDNKh. From the Creators" took place at Skolkovo as part of the "Portal 2030-2050" festival.

Alexander Fuetnes, a representative of Moscow, noted that the "Digital Twin" is an informational three-dimensional map of Moscow and is often used in meetings for management decision-making.

According to Fuetnes, the city's leadership also uses the digital twin when working with all sectors of the city: security, landscaping, and the social sphere. When it became clear that the technologies being used were insufficient, the authorities decided to switch to a new technological platform that would provide richer and more detailed visualization.

As a result, a new subsystem called "Meta" appeared. It allows modeling planned changes to the city and seeing, with detail down to the facades, what it will look like in the future and how city residents will use the new environment. At the same time, the platform supports gamification.

VDNKh was chosen as one of the key territories of the city for the public digital project. The "MetaVDNKh" is based on a 3D model of the exhibition from the digital twin of the city.

To create a virtual copy, more than 80 objects and 400 exhibits were recreated in detail, the smallest details of buildings and interiors were digitized, and gaming industry technologies were used to gamify the metaverse.

Alexander Belavin, Director of the Department of Strategic Development and Territory Management of VDNKh, shared plans to use "MetaVDNKh" as a tool for tourism companies. They direct a tourist flow to the exhibition complex, so they need a way to tell what VDNKh is now, since many still have the old image.

The authors of the project believe that "MetaVDNKh" can also become the basis for educational projects, as well as a platform for online events organized by users.
