NOVATEK has postponed the construction of the third line of the Arctic LNG 2 plant to 2028. Initially, the launch of this line, with a capacity of 6.6 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year, was planned for 2026. Construction began in October 2023, but now the third line is expected to be ready only in 2028.
According to RBC sources, construction work at the Center for the Construction of Large-Tonnage Offshore Structures (CCLTS) will be limited until the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026, after which the CCLTS will resume full-scale operations. The reasons for the postponement include difficulties in accessing the necessary equipment and a shortage of Arc7 ice-class reinforced tankers for exporting LNG in northern climates, which complicates the project's logistics.
Previously, it was planned that the active phase of construction would last until the beginning of 2025, but now work on the third line will be suspended for a year, which also contributes to the postponement of the launch date.
