Aircraft May Be Renamed "Yakovlev"

The domestically produced, import-substituted short-haul aircraft Sukhoi Superjet 100 may be renamed "Yakovlev," according to Sergey Chemezov, head of the Rostec State Corporation.

We have everything under the "A. S. Yakovlev Design Bureau." I think it will be "Yakovlev."
Sergey Chemezov, Head of Rostec State Corporation

He added that the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) will abandon the Superjet name in the future.

Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a Russian-made passenger airliner that was launched into commercial operation in 2011. It is capable of carrying 98 passengers and four crew members over distances of up to 4,400 kilometers.

In January, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, Denis Manturov, announced the appearance of a new brand on the domestic aviation market. According to him, it will include Superjet and MC-21 aircraft with varying degrees of localization.
