Inconspicuous and "Invincible": "Flying" T-80BVM Tank Receives "Nakidka" Camouflage Kit and New Protection

Shoigu inspects tank production at a defense industry enterprise in the Omsk region

The head of the Russian Ministry of Defense inspected the implementation of the state defense order by a defense industry enterprise in the Omsk region, where the "flying" T-80BVM tanks and heavy flamethrower systems TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" are produced.

The factory management reported to Shoigu that the armor protection of the T-80BVM tanks had been increased. The plant is currently assembling a new model tank. It receives the Nakidka camouflage kit and a protective visor. In addition, all armored vehicles are shipped with an additional turret protection module.

When we started a large program to create additional protection for tanks, we were looking for alloys and technical solutions. We did all this. Now we need to increase the pace of production
Sergei Shoigu

The press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense clarified that the next batch of armored vehicles produced is ready. The T-80BVM was loaded onto railway platforms, and they will soon be sent to the troops.

What is known about the "Nakidka" protection kit

This is a camouflage for tanks from reconnaissance, military intelligence and high-precision weapons. It consists of a special heat-insulating and radio-absorbing material. "Nakidka" includes several parts, including for the turret, the roof of the engine compartment.

Camouflage reduces the probability of detection of the T-80BVM by infrared homing heads by 2-3 times, in all radar ranges its visibility is reduced up to 6 times or more. In the radio-thermal range, a tank with "Nakidka" on the operator's screen or in the homing head almost merges with the background.

Increasing production of TOS "Solntsepyok"

In 2023, the Omsk enterprise increased the production of TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" by 2.5 times. This indicator was achieved by expanding production facilities, switching to round-the-clock operation and increasing the number of employees.

Since last year, the company's staff has expanded by hiring more than 1,200 people. 533 employees were trained in the main vocational training programs.
