Russia has a significant tank reserve for 2-3 years, as confirmed by a satellite image cited by the Polish media Defence 24, writes Bulgarian Military. The photo shows "hundreds" of T-80s on the territory of the 61st Armored Repair Plant, located in the St. Petersburg area.
Russian sources clarified: "Regular satellite data on the equipment located in our base warehouses allows the West to closely monitor the material resources of our armed forces. This gives them an approximate idea of our potential mobilization capabilities."
The satellite image with the tanks has spread across the Web. Users and experts agree that Russia has a significant tank fleet, according to the material.
Bulgarian journalists note that "Uralvagonzavod" (UVZ) has withdrawn many tanks from reserve and modernized them.
Bulgarian Military recalled that in September 2023, plans to resume production of the T-80 became known. This decision is probably due to economic feasibility. The publication also does not rule out that a modernized version of this tank — the T-80BVM — will be used in the Arctic.
What is the T-80BVM?
Bulgarian journalists drew attention to the following technical characteristics of the tank:
- GTD-1250 gas turbine engine
- "Relikt" dynamic protection
- 125 mm caliber 2A46M-4 smoothbore gun
- 9M119M1 "Invar-M" guided missile firing
- advanced navigation system
- latest communication system
Among the significant differences, the improved fire control system of the T-80BVM deserves mention. The integrated multi-channel gunner's sight "Sosna-U", combined with the 1A40-4 fire control system, provides improved aiming even in adverse weather conditions and at night
