PJSC "Rostelecom", which owns OMP LLC (developer of the "Aurora" OS), sent a complaint to the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia against "Red Soft", according to an informed source. It is specified that the company demands to conduct an audit of the "Red OS M" operating system, which is included in the register of Russian software.
The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia confirmed receiving a corresponding request from "Rostelecom", the application is under consideration. The developer of "Red OS M" did not comment on this information.
It is known that the "Red Soft" mobile firmware built on AOSP was included in the register in October 2023. The materials of the meeting of the expert council of the ministry include the conclusion of an employee of GC "Astra". According to him, the use of AOSP involves working with the Android SDK. This tool can be installed provided that a license is obtained from Google. However, "Red Soft" proved that it did not use the Android SDK in the development of the OS, GC "Astra" assured.
Experts in the Russian market believe that the register of Russian software should not include products that are based on other people's developments. Dmitry Komissarov, founder of the "Strigo Capital" fund, holds this opinion.
"Basalt SPO" proposed excluding programs from the register that do not meet the stated requirements. At the same time, the company notes the importance of including Linux-based OSs in the list so that the market is not monopolized by "Rostelecom".
Earlier it became known when the fifth version of the domestic OS "Aurora" will be presented. The functionality of the new firmware was also revealed.
