Russian underwater drone "Argus" can "hibernate" on the seabed

And spend six months in this state

The Rubin Central Design Bureau presented its latest development, the Argus underwater drone, at the Army-2023 summer forum. Now, new details about this device have emerged. It turns out that the Argus can "hibernate" on the seabed and remain in this state for six months, until it receives a command for specific actions.

"Argus" will be able to operate as a "resident" underwater vehicle capable of staying underwater for six months, and in the future, even longer.

Despite the fact that, while lying on the bottom, the drone is actually in standby mode, it still needs power. And this issue is resolved with the help of an underwater mooring device used to charge batteries. With an underwater mooring device, there is no need for ships or any surface equipment, which simplifies and reduces the cost of servicing the drone.

Argus was developed primarily for the development of underwater oil or gas fields, maintenance of underwater pipelines, etc. But it can also be used for search and rescue operations. The drone received a titanium "skeleton" and a composite body. The use of these high-strength materials allows it to descend to a depth of up to 6 km.
