The Russian main battle tank (MBT) T-14 "Armata" with an unmanned turret "has not yet gained the reputation to have a chance in the export market." This opinion was expressed by military expert Maya Karlin in the article "Russia Fears Losing Its T-14 \"Armata\" Tank" for The National Interest.
Russia's tank arsenal has noticeably decreased. According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Moscow is losing tanks so quickly that it could completely exhaust its reserves by the end of 2026.
Given this trend, Western analysts are wondering why the Russian Armed Forces are not using their "top MBT T-14 T-14 \"Armata\""? Instead, the Russians are using outdated T-62, T-72, T-80.
As Karlin notes, in 2023, the T-14 participated in combat.
However, the T-14 was soon withdrawn from the battlefield. This may indicate that the tank is not as effective as the Russians would like.
Karlin was not satisfied with the response from the head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, as to why the T-14 is not on the battlefield. He stated that the Armata tanks are "too valuable" and should not be risked. However, the UK Ministry of Defense claims that the new tank did not participate in combat "due to potential reputational damage."
