The special-purpose boat P-475 (Project 21980 Grachonok) joined the Northern Fleet. This is the last in a series of 28 patrol ships designed to protect Russian bases from potential attacks, writes Bulgarian Military.
The P-475 boat was built at the Vympel shipyard in Rybinsk. The ship's crew will be able to prevent attacks on key naval facilities, including attacks by unmanned boats (BEC).
About the Grachonok Project
- Length — 31.04 m
- Width — 7.4 m
- Draft — 1.86 m
- Engines — diesel
- Propulsion — 2 shaft lines and 2 propellers
- Navigation autonomy — 5 days
- Crew — 6 people
Despite its compactness, the P-475 is very maneuverable. The boat develops high speed in any weather conditions. This is especially important for ensuring safety in coastal areas.
As noted by the author of Bulgarian Military, the propulsion system (combining the propulsion and steering complex of the vessel in one unit to improve the operational and maneuverable characteristics of the vessel) of the P-475 is optimized for fuel economy.
One of the key features of Project 21980 boats is advanced radar equipment. The vessels are equipped with modern radars capable of detecting air and surface targets at medium distances.
Radars are integrated with electro-optical surveillance systems for tracking targets in the dark or in fog. An addition to radar systems is hydroacoustic antenna arrays (detect small submarines, mines).
Project 21980 boats are equipped with advanced communication systems for coordinating actions with the command center and other vessels.
The Grachonok is armed with one 14.5 mm MTPU, DP-65 and DP-64 grenade launchers, as well as Igla and Verba MANPADS.
