Russia has developed an improved version of the Universal Gliding and Correction Module (UMPK-P, an aerodynamic kit attached to free-fall aerial bombs, turning them into guided gliding aerial bombs). It is a biplane with a folding wing. The design of the UMPK-P changes the approach to air strikes, writes Bulgarian Military.
The main goal is to increase the speed, range, and accuracy of aerial bombs. Thanks to the UMPK-P, bombers can hit targets at a distance of up to 165 kilometers, and the speed of the aerial bomb in flight reaches 0.9 Mach.
Aerial bombs with UMPK-P can be launched from the Il-76 military transport aircraft and the Tu-22M3 missile-carrying bomber.
As the author of Bulgarian Military notes, the new aerodynamic kit will change the tactics of air operations.
UMPK-P is compatible with radar and sensor systems. The dynamic adaptation mechanism allows taking into account the initial speed of the ammunition, weather conditions, and adjusting its flight in real time.
This module has great prospects; it can become the basis for the further development of modern high-precision weapons platforms.
UMPK-P can be used for ammunition launched from air, land, and sea platforms. The new aerodynamic kit gives Russian military personnel a strategic advantage.
