Turkish defense contractor Aselsan has reviewed technical documentation and excluded the Russian S-400 Triumf SAM system from its Hakim 100 air defense control system, Bulgarian Military writes.
Aselsan's decision has raised questions among experts who monitor relations between Russia and Turkey. Previously, according to the documentation, the S-400 was part of the integrated Hakim 100 air defense network.
About the Hakim 100 System
Hakim 100 is a complex air defense control system designed to coordinate various air defense platforms and aerial assets. It collects and processes data from various sensors, providing the operator with information about the air situation.
The system is designed to protect military facilities, defend critical infrastructure (airports, nuclear power plants, and other strategic facilities).
The system supports a wide range of weapons, including missile systems with active and semi-active radar homing channels, as well as artillery and laser defense systems.
About the S-400 SAM System
This is a long- and medium-range SAM system. The S-400 Triumf was put into service on April 28, 2007. The cost of one division of four anti-aircraft missile system vehicles is almost $625 million.
Turkey bought four S-400 divisions from Russia. In October 2019, it became known that the contract was completed ahead of schedule. Turkey was supplied with all elements of the SAM system, including missiles. The purchase caused discontent among the US authorities. In August 2024, Ankara stated that it would not use the S-400 if Washington allowed the purchase of F-35.
