For the mass re-engining of the remaining SSJ 100s in Russia, the United Engine Corporation may not need to expand PD-8 production. The necessary resources could be obtained by reducing the output of SJ 100s in the new KPGА program, for which the main quantity of engines was originally planned. This is reported by "Kommersant" newspaper, citing its sources.

Currently, there are about 160 SSJ 100s with SaM-146 engines remaining in Russia. In the current version of the Comprehensive Program for the Development of the Aviation Industry, PD-8s are primarily intended for new SJ 100s and for forming a replacement fund.
This scenario allows solving two problems at once without a separate expansion of ODK capacities. On the one hand, PD-8s will gain an additional market in the form of the old SSJ 100 fleet, and on the other hand, serial production should reduce costs and shorten engine manufacturing times.
However, this does not necessarily mean re-engining all 160 aircraft: previously, the industry estimated the feasible volume of such a program to be approximately 50–100 aircraft.
The shift from plans to expand engine production to reallocating existing capacities is particularly important against the backdrop of changes in the aircraft production program itself. For the new SJ 100, the PD-8 acts as the standard power plant, whereas for the old SSJ 100, the engine will have to be integrated into the existing design with modifications to a number of systems.
As a result, the PD-8 may acquire an unexpected role: an engine that was primarily created for the new Russian SJ 100 will become the basis for extending the service life of a significant part of the previous generation of "Superjets".
