The declared service life of the new PD-8 engine currently stands at about 80 cycles, or about 40 flights. However, this characteristic does not determine the competitiveness of the product, noted Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Gennady Abramenkov.

According to him, there is already a plan to increase the engine's service life, which significantly outpaces the possible operating time of the aircraft.

This is a global practice. Exactly the same thing happened with the French SaM146, when the service life was increased ahead of the aircraft's flight hours.

The PD-8 engine will be installed on new import-substituted SJ-100 liners. It is known that ODK increased the durability of the French-Russian SaM146 engines to at least 3000 flight cycles instead of the basic 1000. That is, the PD-8 in its current state is at least 37.5 times less durable than the SaM146.

Former Airbus auditor Andrey Patrakov, in an interview with "Pervy Tekhnichesky", emphasized that the service life of the PD-8 is still unknown; it will only be confirmed by regular, multi-year "break-in".
