The Soviet biplane An-2 may get several new versions. After obtaining a type certificate for the basic aircraft, Russian companies gained the opportunity to develop and produce its modernized modifications, said Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Gennady Abramenkov.

According to him, "Rusaviaprom", aircraft repair enterprise "Motor" and "Technoregion" are working on the aircraft.

Earlier, Abramenkov reported that about 700 An-2 aircraft are currently in storage, with many of them having used only a third of their service life.

Head of Rosaviatsiya Dmitry Yadrov explained that obtaining a certificate for the An-2 secures SibNIA's status as the aircraft developer and opens up opportunities for modernizing the machine, including engine replacement as part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's program. Currently, the rights to the An-2 belong to Airbus Military.

For example, a modernized An-2 with a TRE-331 engine reduced its takeoff run by 3 times — 50 m instead of 150 m.
