The fully import-substituted SJ-100, manufactured in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, has become significantly better in quality compared to earlier Superjet versions and may eventually surpass Airbus and Boeing in safety. This statement was made by Khabarovsk Krai Governor Dmitry Demeshin.

Demeshin noted that operators had many complaints about the original Superjet. During the creation of the SJ-100, a significant part of the equipment had to be replaced, which required design modifications and extensive new testing. As a result, the governor believes, the aircraft has become of higher quality and should provide a higher level of safety.

However, the statement about superiority over Airbus and Boeing cannot yet be considered the result of a published comparative study. The SJ-100 is still undergoing certification procedures, and its actual reliability indicators will be formed only after the start of regular operation.

With a new aircraft, problems in the first years of operation are quite expected even after obtaining a certificate. Certification tests confirm compliance with established requirements, but some failures and operational nuances may only become apparent after significant flight hours have accumulated.

This was directly pointed out by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov. In May 2026, he explained that "teething problems" are associated with failures that are identified during operation and require subsequent elimination.
