The experimental SJ-100 aircraft with Russian PD-8 engines has begun certification tests for compliance with aviation noise requirements. The work is being carried out by specialists from Yakovlev company in cooperation with the M. M. Gromov Flight Research Institute. The results obtained will become part of the certification program for the fully import-substituted airliner.
The tests are taking place at Ramenskoye airfield. More than 200 specialists are participating, who will perform 12 flights and hundreds of take-offs and landings. During each flight, acoustic parameters, aircraft trajectory, onboard system operation, and weather conditions are simultaneously recorded. Dozens of microphones and a large amount of measuring equipment are used to obtain reliable results.
One of the main innovations is the MOK-I mobile optical system developed by LII engineers. It determines the aircraft's position using video surveillance and builds its trajectory without relying on satellite navigation, which can be unstable in conditions of radio interference. The complex also transmits information to the crew in real time, allowing for more precise adherence to specified flight parameters and reducing the number of repeated tests.
Additionally, before each test phase, a Mi-8AMT helicopter with aerological equipment takes off. It investigates the state of the atmosphere, as temperature, humidity, wind, and other parameters directly affect noise propagation. According to specialists, the combination of new measurement technologies and modern Russian engines should ensure the successful completion of one of the most complex stages of SJ-100 certification.
Earlier, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov announced that Russian engineers developed their own collision avoidance sensors for MS-21 and SJ-100 aircraft, which were previously supplied only by the American company Collins Aerospace. In parallel, the United Engine Corporation revealed new technological solutions applied in the creation of the Russian PD-8 aircraft engine, including developments in materials and production, allowing for increased reliability and efficiency of the power plant.
