The MS-21-200 aircraft will receive a lightweight design: engineers are working to reduce the weight of individual aircraft elements. The project plans to reduce the weight of the engine pylon and the onboard cable network, which will improve the main flight characteristics of the airliner.

The work is being carried out as part of the creation of a new shortened modification of the MS-21. However, the developed solutions will not be limited to this version only. After the completion of experimental design work, they are planned to be implemented on other aircraft of the family.

Reducing the weight of key structural elements will increase the efficiency of the airliner, improve its operational characteristics, and create a reserve for further modernization of the platform. It is the lightening of the structure that will be one of the main results of the project, along with the development of a new aircraft modification.

Optimizing the design will give developers an additional reserve for further aircraft tuning. The airliner will be able to more effectively use the characteristics of the power plant and maintain competitive performance with different commercial load options.

Earlier, Roman Gusarov, editor-in-chief of the AVIA.RU portal and aviation industry expert, spoke about the prospects of the new modification. According to his assessment, the development of the MS-21-200 will be the next stage in the family's development after the stable production of the basic MS-21-300 version begins.
