The new LMS-901 "Baikal" aircraft has already become a failure and virtually useless due to its runway requirements. The verdict on the aircraft was delivered by Yury Zakharchenko, executive director of the RKK-Nauka professional association.
According to him, the technical characteristics of the "Baikal" are inferior to other existing aircraft. For example, the airfield basing of the LMS-901 has become a problem.
And we will never build an airfield for the "Baikal" in every village, because the passenger traffic is too small. Will it fly from airfield to airfield? What's the point of such a nine-seater then?
Zakharchenko recalled that even the Soviet An-2, with its large wheels, could land in every village thanks to its high cross-country capability in terms of landing gear.
Oleg Smirnov, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Commission of the Public Council of Rostransnadzor, called for an investigation into where billions for the development of the LMS-901 went.
