Be-200 grounded due to Motor Sich engines

"RKK-Nauka": "The amphibian could be used to develop an international certification system, but nothing has been done"

The Be-200 amphibious aircraft could be of interest to the whole world, but Russia is doing nothing towards international certification. This was stated by Yuri Zakharchenko, executive director of the RKK-Nauka professional association.

According to him, the Be-200 is the most effective fire-fighting aircraft in the world. It was successful thanks to international cooperation, and the experience gained was used in the work on the SJ-100 and MC-21.

But, nevertheless, we can no longer produce it [the engine] or receive it from Zaporizhzhia. That is, ultimately, the Be-200 could have been used to develop an international certification system, but so far Russia is doing almost nothing in this direction.
Yuri Zakharchenko, Executive Director of the RKK-Nauka Professional Association

It should be noted that the serial Be-200 aircraft are equipped with Ukrainian D-436TP engines manufactured by the Motor Sich enterprise. After the cessation of component supplies, it was decided to switch the amphibian to domestic PD-8 engines, but there has been no news yet about the success of the re-engining.

Last autumn, Rostov Oblast Governor Yuri Slyusar stated that testing of the Be-200 with PD-8 will begin in 2026.
