"Aeroflot" Spends Billions on Airbus and Boeing, Without Waiting for MC-21

Airline's expenses for fleet maintenance doubled in 2026

Aeroflot airline's expenses, excluding its subsidiaries "Rossiya" and "Pobeda," for maintaining its aircraft and engines in airworthy condition in the first quarter of 2026 amounted to 7.27 billion rubles. This is 2.2 times more than in the same period of 2025.

It is worth noting that the company's other expenses did not grow as sharply. For example, jet fuel costs for January – March 2026 increased by 2% (to 46.6 billion rubles), ground handling by 16% (to 10.24 billion rubles), and personnel by 17% (to 13 billion rubles).

Recall that Aeroflot operates a mixed fleet, which includes both Airbus aircraft of the A320, A330, and A350 families, and Boeing — models 737-800 and 777.

The company plans to purchase 200 MC-21s by 2033. "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" armed itself with a calculator and calculated the pace PAO "Yakovlev" needs to achieve to meet such demand.
