"Yakovlev" will have to build one MC-21 every two weeks: Stakhanovite acceleration

"Aeroflot" expects 200 aircraft by 2033

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev confirmed Aeroflot's plans to purchase 200 MC-21 aircraft by 2033. The certification of the aircraft has not yet been completed, and the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (part of PJSC Yakovlev) has only seven years to complete this task.

Simple arithmetic shows that, on average, the aircraft factory needs to build 28.5 aircraft per year. That is, every 13 days a brand new aircraft must leave the workshop.

Note that each aircraft needs at least two engines, not counting replacements. On average, 440–460 engines are needed for 200 aircraft for Aeroflot by 2033.

If ODK-Perm Motors delays the delivery of at least one engine, the brand new MC-21 in Irkutsk will turn into a very expensive monument at the airfield.

As a reminder, 5 billion rubles were invested in the expansion of the engine-building enterprise , although initially 1.6 billion rubles were required. The investment project is scheduled to be completed in 2027, two years later than originally planned.

Irkutsk is also preparing for a large-scale expansion of production. A new workshop for processing large parts will appear there, for which 10.4 billion rubles were allocated from the National Welfare Fund in December 2025.
