Russia is discussing with India the provision of a site for the construction of several nuclear power plant (NPP) units in the republic. This was announced by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
According to him, the new facilities will significantly strengthen India's energy security.
Regarding peaceful atom, we discussed the possibility of providing us with a new site for the construction of several more nuclear power plant units.
Recall that Russia and India are jointly building the Kudankulam NPP in the state of Tamil Nadu in the south of the republic. The first and second units have been operating since 2016–2017. In total, the project involves the creation of six units, and the construction of four new ones is ongoing.
Also, in April 2026, the republic signed an agreement with the French company EDF for a joint assessment of the deployment of EPR reactors. The US Department of Energy formed a delegation of nuclear industry top managers to visit India to promote their own small modular reactor technologies.
