Polish fighters intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft in international airspace over the Baltic Sea. This was announced by the Polish Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

According to him, the Russian aircraft allegedly did not use a transponder during the flight.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces emphasized that the Il-20 did not violate Polish airspace and was in a neutral zone.

 The actions of the fighters were carried out as part of standard procedures for responding to aerial objects in the area of responsibility.

The Il-20 is an electronic reconnaissance aircraft regularly used for monitoring the situation and collecting data.

The advantages of the specialized aircraft were acknowledged by former US Air Force Thunderbirds pilot Ryan Bodenheimer.
