Engine PD-8 assembly check entrusted to neural networks weeks before certification

AI analyzes the correctness of element installation and identifies defects

The United Engine Corporation has introduced artificial intelligence and machine vision to control the quality of the PD-8 engine assembly. These technologies increase product reliability and reduce the influence of the human factor, Rostec explained.

For example, the UEC-Saturn plant in the Yaroslavl region uses a system with an AI module and a camera. The equipment allows automatic visual inspection of the engine at all stages of assembly.

The introduction of the neural network allows reducing the control time and preparation of reporting documentation by more than half. In addition, the load on personnel is reduced — instead of three specialists, one operator can handle the process.

Artificial intelligence analyzes the correctness of the installation of elements, including bolted connections and gaps between parts, and also identifies potential defects.

Earlier, the Perm plant UEC-STAR received approval for the serial production of the RED-8 regulator and the BZD-8 protection unit for the PD-8 engine. The Rosaviatsiya commission was satisfied with the quality

The official certification of PD-8 is scheduled for April 2026, Rosaviatsiya noted. Rostec showed unique footage of the production of power plant parts.
