Production of PD-8 aircraft engines at "ODK-Saturn" sharply accelerated

The Rybinsk enterprise "ODK-Saturn" has developed and implemented a new digital solution. Thanks to the commissioning of a hardware and software complex, the time for transferring gas turbine engine parts for control measurements has been reduced by 6.4 times, which has reduced production losses.

Thermal imaging cameras integrated into the temperature control system have made it possible to monitor the temperature of products, which affects the geometric parameters and ensures reliable control results.

Alexander Sorokin, Deputy Director for Digital Transformation at "ODK-Saturn," noted that the complex initially underwent trial operation at the central measuring laboratory.

Today, this experience is being replicated at 14 sections for controlling parts and assemblies. As a result, the technological holding time of gas turbine engine parts has been reduced by 6.4 times. This is a unique result of increasing efficiency. What used to take up to a day and a half can now be measured in minutes. The solution directly affects the duration of the engine manufacturing cycle.

Also, as part of improving the efficiency of metrological processes, "ODK-Saturn" has implemented several digital tools. Over the past two years, the plant has completed seven works related to optimizing the verification of technological equipment, accounting systems, issuance, and delivery of measuring instruments.

As a reminder, "ODK-Saturn" is one of the key enterprises of UEC, producing the popular PD-8 aircraft engines for the import-substituted "Superjet."

In December 2025, the engine successfully passed one of the key stages — fan blade failure tests, confirming the strength of the casing.
