The repair and tool plant (RIZ) of PJSC "KAMAZ" has completed the successful implementation of magnetic grippers designed to speed up the operations of installing and dismantling metal blanks on machine tools. The new devices with a lifting capacity of 300 to 3000 kg have reduced the duration of auxiliary operations by 50–70%.
The initiative arose during the mapping of production processes carried out by the plant's production system development group. The analysis revealed that machine operators spend an average of up to 30 minutes setting up equipment and fixing products before processing. To improve efficiency and ergonomics of workplaces, a technical solution search program was launched.
According to Yulia Zaripova, head of the production system development group, when choosing a technology, specialists were guided by the successful experience of using magnetic grippers in other KAMAZ divisions. As Zaripova noted, the innovation has shown high efficiency: the time for installing and removing the workpiece has been reduced by more than half.
Currently, the production system development group has calculated the need to purchase five more magnetic grippers. When placing an order, preference will be given to models with a rotary mechanism, providing additional convenience when positioning parts.
