From Dandelions to "Mad Max": The Military Improvises Protection Against FPV Drones on the T-72B3 Tank

When there is no centralized solution, chaotic genius is born

Russian military personnel have once again demonstrated a T-72B3 tank modified with their own hands in an unusual guise — covered with nets, lattice screens, metal rods, and fragments of additional armor. This appearance of the combat vehicle has long been dubbed the "dandelion tank" in military circles and is associated with combat platforms from "Mad Max" or transformers from movies.

A key feature of the tank is that the presented sample is not a serial or approved prototype — it is the result of the initiative of units adapting the equipment to new challenges. In particular — to the threat posed by small unmanned aerial vehicles.

As a result, the same T-72B3 can look completely different — depending on the experience and resources of a particular unit.

The T-72B3 with homemade protection demonstrates not only armor, but also the army's readiness for the era of drones. Adaptation occurs even though official standards are still being developed.
