The Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of PJSC "Tupolev", Rostec State Corporation) adheres to plans to produce 10 new Tu-160M2 missile carriers. This was reported by the local newspaper "Vechernyaya Kazan".
KAZ is also continuing work on the deep modernization of existing aircraft to the Tu-160M version. The machines, developed back in the 1970s, remain an important component of Russian long-range aviation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on February 23, 2024, that four Tu-160M missile carriers had been transferred to the Armed Forces in Kazan.
In December 2024, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated that the Air Force would receive four more Tu-160Ms in 2025. It should be noted that there have been no official reports of this for 11 months.
As a reminder, the Tu-160M is a modernized strategic missile carrier, equipped with four new NK-32-02 engines manufactured by the United Engine Corporation.
