The commander of the MS-21 aircraft, Honored Test Pilot of Russia, test pilot of PJSC Yakovlev, Andrei Voropaev, spoke about the details of the flight of the second import-substituted aircraft. In particular, the crew decided not to risk landing in strong winds.
Voropaev noted that as part of the tests, all the necessary checks of domestic systems were successfully completed.
We made two approaches to landing - one in a clean configuration, one in a deployed configuration. We decided not to risk it due to the wind, it was gusty. Everyone saw what happened at the launch - we had to wait it out. When the weather service reported gusts exceeding the limits, we decided to approach from a different direction.
The pilot emphasized that the crew was ready for anything, and the weather was analyzed in advance.
We can't be scared by anything. The plane is beautiful, in itself - just beautiful. As our designers said, a beautiful plane flies beautifully.
The MS-21 took to the sky from the airfield of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant of the Yakovlev company. The operation of new domestic systems and PD-14 engines was tested on board. This is the second import-substituted MS-21 to take to the air. The aircraft will join the certification testing program in addition to the experienced MS-21.
