Pavel Pavlenko, General Director of the Tula-based "Oktava" plant, which is part of the Rostec State Corporation, announced the development of a new version of the "Obereg" body armor for use in hot weather.
The body armor being developed for hot climates will be modular and lightweight, with advanced customization for a specific person.
It should be noted that there are currently four versions of the body armor: the basic "Obereg" - for general military units, "Obereg-GR" - for humanitarian demining sappers, "Obereg-SN" - for concealed carrying, and "Obereg-INKASS" - for cash collectors and special communications personnel.
Pavlenko also spoke about a new high-survivability plate, which can be conditionally classified as Br4+ protection class due to additional resistance to cartridges such as 5.45 by 39 millimeters 7N24, 5.56 by 45 millimeters M855, and 7.62 by 54 millimeters 57-N-323S.
"Oktava" will continue to improve "Obereg". Work is currently underway to reduce weight, increase protection area, improve protective characteristics and ergonomics of body armor. And from the latest materials, such as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) of high density, it is planned to create monolithic plates of protection class Br4, which will further reduce the weight of the vest, as well as ensure maximum survivability of armor plates.
