The decision of the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of the Rostec State Corporation) to work on the PD-35 engine raises questions, because there is no aircraft for it and is not expected. This was stated by Alexander Lanetsky, General Director of the consulting company Friendly Avia Support.
Lanetsky recalled that work on the power plant has been going on for about 10 years.
Usually, of course, first there is a technical task for the car: how far to fly, what to carry, and so on. Then an engine is developed for it.
Lanetsky suggested that the designers may proceed from the fact that the technologies of the unit can be applied in some other projects. According to him, this is not a completely normal, but “theoretically viable” situation.
Meanwhile, the PD-35 has entered the second stage of testing. Domestic turbine and compressor parts are being tested on the power plant. UEC has carried out more than 50 launches of the PD-35, as a result, when reaching take-off mode, it was possible to achieve a thrust of more than 35 tons.
Former Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation Oleg Smirnov noted that additional money will be invested in the development of the PD-35 at the suggestion of the country's top officials. There is no aircraft for the power plant yet.
Earlier www1.ru reported that ODK-Klimov revealed all stages of production of aircraft engines for Il-114-300 and Ansata.
