The Zaporizhzhia NPP has been switched to backup power from diesel generators due to the disconnection of the last external power line supplying it. This was reported by the station's communications director, Evgenia Yashina.
Currently, the station's own needs, which are necessary to ensure safety, are being supplied by backup diesel generators. All of them were started up normally and are operating in normal mode.
According to her, there are currently sufficient fuel reserves for backup power at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
The situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP escalated on May 7, when one of the two remaining high-voltage power lines (330 kV) - "Ferrosplavnaya-1" - was disconnected due to the activation of the protection system. To ensure the functioning of the station, it was necessary to use the backup 750 kV "Dneprovskaya" line, which was previously used for the internal needs of the facility. This forced decision underscores the vulnerability of the station: according to representatives of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the operation of a single working line creates a "constant tension", since its disconnection will require an emergency start of powerful diesel generators to maintain the reactor cooling system.
