Scammers have intensified schemes in Telegram to deceive Russians with the transfer of non-existent cars from Europe. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, fraudsters are advertising fake car transportation companies.
Fraudsters create channels in Telegram that at first glance look reliable: they have many subscribers, reactions, and photos of cars. Citizens interested in buying a car contact the manager via messenger. To conclude the contract, the manager requests passport data and an advance payment. In one recorded case, a resident of Yakutia lost more than 1 million rubles on such a scheme in early August 2025.
Some time after the first payment, the fraudster demands additional funds, allegedly for customs duties or other expenses. After receiving the transfer, the fraudster stops communicating, leaving the client without money and a car. The chronology of events usually develops within a few days: from advertising to disappearance.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends checking information about sellers through official sources and avoiding prepayments to strangers. In 2025, demand for imported cars increased due to market changes, which intensified the activity of fraudsters.
