Fraud scheme through fake "remote work" applications revealed in Yugra

Attackers infected phones with viruses and stole money from bank accounts

In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Nizhnevartovsk detained 15 people suspected of fraud and distribution of malicious software. 113 people from different regions of Russia were recognized as victims, the total damage amounted to about 2.5 million rubles. This is reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

From June 2024 to February 2025, attackers posted advertisements for remote work on the Internet. Victims were offered to download a file to their phone.

After infecting the device with viruses, the attackers gained access to banking applications and accounts on the Unified Portal of Public Services, transferred money to their accounts and took out loans.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs advises not to download applications for work from unverified sources, not to transfer personal data to unfamiliar employers, and to use two-factor authentication for banking services and public services.
