Size of 14 football fields: Construction of the key switching point "Baikal" completed

The facility was built to supply power to 11 traction substations of the BAM

A new 220 kV switching point "Baikal" has been launched in the Khabarovsk Territory. It will supply the final section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to the ports of Vanino. This was reported by Rosseti.

The facility was built to supply power to 11 traction substations. This will increase the cargo flow along the Eastern Railway Polygon.

The area of the switchgear is about 10 hectares (comparable to 14 football fields). Russian equipment (gas-insulated circuit breakers and digital protection systems) is used in its design.

A 220 kV power transmission line connecting "Baikal" with the 500 kV "Komsomolskaya" substation has also been energized. This is part of a new transit, the total length of which will be over 430 km after construction. It will also include another switching point – 220 kV "Kuznetsovsky".

Over the past five years, the capacity of the Eastern Polygon has increased 1.5 times, reaching 180 million tons of cargo per year. This was made possible by the electrification of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the BAM. Rosseti has already completed the first phase of the project and commissioned six of the seven key facilities of the second phase. The full launch of the new transit from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to Vanino is scheduled for 2026, as part of the program, about 5 thousand km of power lines will be built and 5 thousand MVA of capacity will be added.

Earlier www1.ru reported that how this will increase the reliability of power supply.
