Russian Residents Support Increased Control Over Drone Usage: Russians Distrust Drone Delivery Technology

Survey Reveals Public Concerns About Safety and Potential Misuse of Drones

According to recent research, over half of Russian residents support increased state control over the use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). In particular, respondents support the introduction of fines for violations of drone operation rules and mandatory registration of devices. However, only 9% of those surveyed believe that drones can completely replace traditional delivery services.

The survey shows that the main reasons for distrust in the technology are:

  • Technical instability (57% of respondents) — risks of malfunctions, the influence of weather conditions, and navigation errors
  • Potential misuse of technology (42%) — concerns about cargo theft or unauthorized access to control systems
  • Cybersecurity issues (27%) — leaks of personal data and order information

Despite the skepticism, almost half of those surveyed (46%) acknowledge that drones can significantly speed up delivery. About a third (32%) see their benefit for residents of remote regions, and a quarter (25%) expect a reduction in service costs.

Experts note that the mass adoption of drone delivery will require process transparency, consumer awareness, and effective regulatory measures from the authorities.
