Expert: Artificial intelligence will become a mandatory assistant for doctors in the Russian Federation

AI system is more sensitive when analyzing medical images

In the coming years, artificial intelligence may become a mandatory assistant for doctors in diagnostics in Russia. This opinion is held by Evgeny Kuznetsov, CEO of the Digital Evolution Ventures fund. According to him, AI systems show higher sensitivity when analyzing medical images than average specialists.

Kuznetsov noted that AI in the analysis of computed tomography of the lungs and mammography surpasses traditional diagnostic methods by 5-10 percentage points. Moscow has already achieved significant success in introducing AI into healthcare, which puts Russia among the world leaders in this area.

According to the expert, other countries are also actively developing the use of AI in medicine. For example, China plans to introduce a mandatory "second opinion" algorithm for doctors from next year, and similar measures may be implemented in Europe and the USA by 2027 and 2028-2029, respectively.

Kuznetsov recommends that Russian universities include modules on interaction with AI in their curricula so that future doctors can effectively use digital technologies. Doctors should not only be able to make diagnoses, but also understand digital tools, while ensuring data protection and fairness of algorithms, the expert believes.

At the first stage of AI implementation, the responsibility for the final diagnosis should remain with the doctor, while the results of the analysis performed by AI will be recorded in the patient's medical record.
