The fifth-generation fighter of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia, the Su-57, used a rare UPAAB-1500 aerial bomb. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Informant".
The ammunition was developed at the State Research and Production Enterprise "Region" (part of the "Tactical Missile Armament" corporation). The engineers intended to create high-precision aerial bombs with an increased drop range, capable of hitting protected ground and surface targets.
The weight of the product is 1525 kg, of which 1010 kg is the warhead. The product can be dropped in wide ranges of carrier speeds from a height of up to 15 km. With optimal drop parameters, the bomb can fly up to 50 km.
However, the UPAAB-1500 did not receive much practical use due to its short range, because cheaper FABs with UMPC are capable of flying 90 km. Moreover, UMPC has a wide variety of calibers, as well as types of aerial bombs - high-explosive, high-explosive fragmentation, incendiary, cluster, etc. UPAAB simply died out and did not find its niche, and now it is used to hit only buried or "fat" targets in very rare cases, since the range leaves much to be desired.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the reliability of Russian air defense exceeded 99%.
