Magnetic storm intensifies again: the situation on Earth will be restless until June 3

Geostorm reached a value of G3

A magnetic storm has intensified again on Earth. The level of the geostorm reached a value of G3, which corresponds to strong geomagnetic activity. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics.

The storm is rated as "strong" on a scale from G1 to G5, where G1 is the minimum level and G5 is the extreme.

Level G3 can lead to malfunctions in power systems, including false alarms of protective equipment and overheating of transformers. Disruptions in satellite communications, radio signals, and navigation systems are also possible. In some mid-latitude regions, the Northern Lights can be observed.

Experts clarified that the storm has been going on for almost a day. After the peak of activity on June 1, when the magnetic field reached level G4, on the morning of June 2 it temporarily weakened to G1, but then intensified again. Geomagnetic disturbances will persist at least until June 3, and the level of activity will fluctuate.

In addition, the auroral oval over Russia has maintained high intensity for about 9 hours, dropping to a latitude of about 50 degrees. At the moment, there are no signs of destruction or reduction of the auroral zone.

If there are no sharp changes in the characteristics of the solar wind in the next 5-6 hours, the Northern Lights may appear en masse in the European part of the country. This may be the best chance to see this unusual phenomenon this year.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the timing of the end of powerful magnetic storms on Earth has been announced.
