AI Account Hacking in Russia Surges by 90% — Users Lose Control of Personal Data

Experts attribute the increase in attacks to the popularity of neural networks and low levels of digital hygiene

From January to April 2025, Russia recorded a sharp increase in the number of hacked accounts in neural networks and popular AI services — 90% more compared to the same period in 2024. This is reported by specialists from Informzashchita.

The increase in attacks is associated with the rapid growth in the popularity of AI assistants, the expansion of their functionality, and the fact that more and more Russian users are actively using these technologies in their daily and work activities.

Of particular concern is that many users transmit confidential information to AI assistants — from personal data to elements of work projects. This data often remains in the chat history and, in the event of an account compromise, can be used by attackers for targeted attacks or information theft.

Experts also emphasize that the rapid introduction of AI leads to an increase in the number of vulnerabilities. The innovativeness and speed of AI development often run counter to security requirements and trust in the system. Ensuring a balance between technological progress and compliance with cybersecurity standards requires additional resources and time.

Against this background, Russia is seeing an increase in demand for cybersecurity specialists, in particular, for so-called "white hackers" who engage in ethical hacking of systems to identify vulnerabilities.
