From 2025, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) will be expanded in the mandatory medical insurance (MMI) system, including in radiography, fluorography, and computed tomography of the chest organs. This was announced by the head of the Federal MMI Fund, Ilya Balanin.
According to him, in 2024, 30 regions have already started using AI as a second opinion in mammography. The new technology has helped examine over a million people. AI has proven its effectiveness, significantly saving doctors' time and increasing the accuracy of diagnosis.
One of the key advantages is the automatic filling of medical documentation, which reduces the burden on medical personnel. Previously, mammography results had to be evaluated by two doctors, but now, with the participation of AI, one specialist is sufficient — this allows for the redistribution of resources and faster assistance to other patients.
Balanin emphasized that artificial intelligence does not replace a doctor but becomes an important assistant in medical practice. He expressed confidence that all regions will join the use of AI in mammography this year, and further development of digital solutions will improve the quality and accessibility of medical care.
