A promising KS-172 missile has been developed for Russian combat aircraft, which surpasses even the R-37 in both compactness and range, according to military expert and Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov.
According to him, the ammunition is less bulky than the R-37 and has a range of over 400 km.
In this case, even the heavy high-altitude interceptor MiG-31 will be able to successfully fight both bombers and tactical aircraft.
According to Sivkov, the range of air-to-air missiles is currently a determining factor in achieving air superiority. The Doctor of Science expressed confidence that without appropriate missile weapons, even the most advanced aircraft are not able to effectively resist the enemy.
Earlier www1.ru reported that new units will appear for the first time in the Russian Navy.
