The Russian Geran-3 strike drone has already reached combat readiness, but it has a number of serious drawbacks.
The disadvantages of the Geran-3 include the hot exhaust of the jet engine, which increases the drone's visibility in the infrared range. Because of it, the drone becomes too vulnerable on overtaking courses for infrared homing anti-aircraft missiles.
Another disadvantage is the higher production cost compared to the previous Geran-2 due to the complex engine. This may limit the possibility of massive strikes or require the development of new tactical methods of its use.
The key difference of the Geran-3 is the speed of up to 600 km/h. Also, the drone is made using stealth technologies - the effective scattering area does not exceed 0.05 m². These factors make interception difficult and require the use of more expensive anti-aircraft missiles.
