The Tagansky District Court of Moscow fined the Viber messenger 800,000 rubles for violating information legislation. The decision was made against Viber Media S.r.l..
According to the court, the messenger violated Article 13.39 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for fines of up to 1 million rubles for failure to fulfill the obligations assigned to such services.
This is not the first such case in the field of messengers. Previously, Telegram was fined 7 million rubles for refusing to remove channels with extremist content. These channels contained calls for anti-government actions and terrorist attacks.
Roskomnadzor, which oversees compliance with legislation in the field of information, insists on the mandatory removal of unwanted content from messengers operating in Russia.
