Twice the Range: Azimuth Tests New Radar for Airports

The radar determines the coordinates of aircraft via the secondary channel on air routes

The Azimuth company, part of the Rostec State Corporation, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, has created an innovative MVRVL 2700 radar designed to monitor airspace in the vicinity of airports. After successful certification, it turned out that the new radar is capable of detecting aircraft at a distance twice the required parameters.

The invention, developed by Azimuth engineers and patented by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, is designed to control air traffic. The radar determines the location of aircraft via an additional channel in the airport area and on air routes, that is, outside the controlled areas of the airport.

To switch between operating modes, software is used, which is activated by pressing a button. All collected information is automatically transmitted to air traffic control centers.

The MVRVL 2700 monopulse radar demonstrated an impressive result in the airfield mode: the coverage range exceeded 400 kilometers with a basic requirement of at least 160 kilometers. We can say with confidence that the demonstrated characteristics bring the Azimuth product to the highest level not only in Russia, but also in the world.

The innovative device can be used at airfields located in various climatic conditions. The radar antenna demonstrates stable operation in the temperature range from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius.

Earlier it became known that the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant in Udmurtia is starting to produce titanium pipes for the aviation industry. The company's specialists have developed seven new types of pipes with a diameter of 6.35 to 31.75 mm and a wall thickness of 0.4 to 1.3 mm. Previously, these products were imported from Europe.
