The new spacesuit for the Russian manned lunar program may be named "Orlan-Lunar" or "Orlan-L", according to Sergey Pozdnyakov, General Director of NPP Zvezda (part of Roscosmos).
Our "bird" has a good name — "Orlan". There have been so many versions of it, and if it's "Orlan-Lunar", "Lunar", that would be good. If there's something to name, we'll name it.
Pozdnyakov noted that the company has been successfully conducting research work in this area for the past few years. However, at the moment, the preliminary design of the new lunar spacesuit has not yet been commissioned.
The next step should have been a preliminary design for such a spacesuit. But there is no customer for such work today. And I can't say for sure when it will be resumed.
According to the General Director of NPP Zvezda, there is a possibility that exoskeleton technologies will be integrated into the new spacesuit. But so far, the company is working primarily in the interests of the Russian Orbital Station.
It's not yet clear about the Moon. If it happens in 10 years, I don't rule out that we will be able to use such mechanisms to simplify walking.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that autonomous tests of the Sokol-M spacesuit have been completed.
