The main advantage of the Russian Su-35 fighter in combat is its super-maneuverability, which few Western aircraft can match. This opinion was expressed by military expert Brandon J. Weichert in an article for The National Interest.
F-16 aircraft proved ineffective against the Russian Su-35.
Weichert emphasized that even for the F-35, the Russian fighter is a formidable opponent. The expert recalled the words of a former NATO commander, spoken on condition of anonymity.
He expressed the opinion that the pilot of the vaunted fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II combat aircraft is likely to retreat if he detects a Su-35. The Russian aircraft will probably be able to evade any missiles before engaging in combat with the F-35, in which it is likely to win.
The author of the article drew attention to the fact that the Su-35 is well armed. The fighter carries up to 12 short-range missiles, while the F-22A Raptor carries only 8. The Russian aircraft is equipped with the "Khibiny-M" electronic warfare system, which makes it difficult for enemy missiles to lock onto it.
The Russian military is using the Su-35 with great success. It would be foolish for Western strategists to underestimate this aircraft.
