Russia and Iran are launching joint microelectronics production. A memorandum of cooperation has been concluded between the Zelenograd Nanotechnology Center (ZNTTs) and the Headquarters for the Development of Microtechnologies of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The deal was initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and aims to create sustainable production chains, develop technologies, and enter new markets.
ZNTTs will become an integrator of contract manufacturing for Iranian design centers, which will allow the establishment of the production of lithographic equipment, telecommunication multiplexers, and automotive sensors.
Anatoly Kovalev, General Director of ZNTTs, noted that there are currently no such projects in Iran, and the partnership includes the exchange of competencies and specialists. It is expected that the products of both countries will be represented in both the Russian and Iranian markets.
Although there is no talk of investment at this stage, the production of a lithographer for printing 350 nm wafers is estimated at $4.5 million. ZNTTs already has experience in developing lithographic equipment for processors with a topology of 130–65 nm. Since 2019, the company has won seven tenders from the Ministry of Industry and Trade for 8 billion rubles, and in 2021 it received 5.7 billion rubles for production development.
