Deputies from various factions have submitted a bill to the State Duma that would require each taxi to be equipped with two child seats.
The drafters of the document cited the increase in the number of children injured in road accidents: although the total number of accidents decreased from 184,000 in 2015 to 132,000 in 2023, the number of injured children increased from 20,900 to 23,900.
Parliamentarians believe that these statistics indicate the need to improve the rules for transporting children, especially when there are several minors in the taxi at once. In this regard, it is proposed to equip each taxi with two child restraint devices for children aged 7 to 11 years and to make appropriate changes to the law "On the organization of passenger and baggage transportation by passenger taxis in the Russian Federation".
Experts note that families with children experience serious difficulties due to the lack of child seats in taxis, which makes the transportation of children under 12 years of age without appropriate devices actually illegal.
Also, a bill will be introduced to the State Duma aimed at prohibiting the increase of taxi fares when a child seat is present. It is proposed to abolish the surcharge for the seat, equating the "Children's" fare with the regular one, which should make trips with children more affordable against the background of rising prices in this segment.
